“Enduring Wisdom”: Doctor John Zweifler Discusses How Health Care is Being Tipped in the Right Direction

Doctor John Zweifler, a practicing family physician and Medical Director for Clinical Integration and Graduate Medical Education at Adventist Health Hanford, will present the first “thought provocateur” session of the 30th National Conference on Primary Health Care Access on April 8th, 2019.

Doctor Zweifler will argue that American health care is at a tipping point as a result of several factors.

Dramatic changes will be driven by three major trends:

  1. cost and quality – increased emphasis throught the growth of accountable care organizations

2. the digital revolution – on verge of transforming health care

3.  population health – which focuses health care interest in:

a) public health,

b) chronic care management.

c) case management strategies

d) increased attention on social determinants of health.

Doctor Zweifler argues that these major trends could result in windfall profits for a few, or an opportunity to have the type of health care system we would want for ourselves, our families, and our communities. Advocating for the enactment of key, common-sense policies can tip health care in the right direction.

Doctor Zweifler has been with Adventist for over 5 years in leadership positions with our rural health clinics and with Adventist Health Plan. Prior to joining Adventist Dr Zweifler was the Chief of Family Medicine at the University of California San Francisco Fresno for over a decade, and has also had Medical Director positions with the State of California and several community health centers. He has a longstanding interest in making health care efficient and effective.
